Burnout prevention: what are the options?
Parents usually land on one of these 4 approaches.
1. Push through
You keep going and deal with exhaustion as it comes.
2. Scheduled recovery time
You build regular rest and time off into the week.
3. Lower the standard
You let some things, such as a tidy house, slide.
4. Buy or recruit help
You pay for or ask family and friends for help.

What else is worth knowing?
Parental burnout is deep exhaustion that makes caring feel like too much. It builds slowly, so it helps to know your own warning signs and what restores you. Deciding in advance what you would cut, buy or ask for makes it easier to act early.
Questions to ask each other
- What are the first signs that you are running on empty?
- What would you want me to do, or not do, when I see them?
- Where would we be willing to lower the standard or spend money to protect our energy?
